While walking her brother’s dog, LA county prosecutor, Tessa Jacobi ran across a young girl, Kelly Martin, crying, in the park. After getting her to tell her story, she’s outraged and ready to do everything possible to make Kelly’s attacker pay for his crime. The fact that he is a high profile athlete and Kelly is a minor is just one more nail in this guy’s coffin. Tessa is about to discover that a simple rape case is about to turn into a battle for her life.

Drugs, money-laundering, prostitution, and bribery are just a few of the things that are uncovered during a routine investigation into what started out as a simple case of date-rape. When road blocks go up and Tessa is warned to leave it alone, she just becomes more determined to get justice for Kelly. No one deserves to be forced into a life that she doesn’t want. With the help of private investigator Lucas Novak, Tessa is about to blow wide open, a case that the Feds have been working on for a year.

A former SWAT team member for the Sheriff's Department and owner of Novak International, Lucas is the right man for the job to keep Tessa safe and to help her rescue Kelly, even if the sexy lawyer is a little gun shy. Knowing about her commitment issues, Lucas is willing to do whatever it takes to win her trust and keep her after the investigation is over, even play by her rules and work within the system. But when an attempt is made on Tessa’s life, as far as Lucas is concerned, all bets are off and now they do things his way.

Lucas and Tessa are strong, passionate and great together. After a little initial friction, these two settle first into a professional relationship that quickly escalates into a personal one. They are magic together, the chemistry and passion are explosive and they give off enough sparks to heat up a room and had this reader squirming in her seat. Lucas and Tessa are able to extend the respect and trust they have for each other professionally into their personal relationship. Watching Lucas help Tessa deal with her grief after losing a dear friend, left me a little teary eyed, which ain’t an easy thing to do to this reader. Ms. Lowell has managed to put all the pain, grief and tenderness on the page and make it feel real.

With a riveting story line and wonderful characters, No Escape is a page-turner from beginning to end. I was hooked, glued to the page waiting to see what happens next. I found it very hard to put this book down. Author Heather Lowell has another winner on her hands and has found a place on my auto-buy list.
