Cesca is attracted to Steele and always has been. They have a friendship but she gives him a hard time when he comes to the planet that she works on. Unlike most times, this time she gives him a challenge to one of his questions. But will Steele take up the gauntlet she threw at him? Cesca is independent, but she is lonely as well. She knows that no one but Steele can erase the loneliness from her.

Steele has loved Cesca from the very beginning but has done nothing about it. Oh he stops by and sees her when he can, but that is the extent of it, besides the innuendos he gives her each time they see each other. But the challenge she gave him gives him pause. He wonders about the challenge but that soon comes to an end by Cesca.

Pirates Of The Stars is a short story and even with the length of the story, it leaves nothing open for us to wonder about. I liked how the hero and heroine had known each other for years; it wasn’t an instant attraction that brought them together but a friendship that had been built of the years and a respect for the other.
