Lachlan McKendrick has been tortured with erotic dreams about the same woman every night. But Lachlan had a curse over his head: any woman that he f***ed ended up being turned into an animal, granted that the effects were temporary, but that sure had put a dampen on any inclination he may have had to seek sex. The only woman that would not be turned into an animal would be his true soul mate...and he had his own uncles to thank for that. It seemed that they decided that it was time for him to settle down and produce the next generation of McKendricks. To make matters even worse, over the past three weeks he had found himself obsessing over the pretty owner of The Wicked Brew café...someone who was not of his kind...but a human.

Evan Hayes has been trying to catch Lachlan's attention for a while. She calls him Magic Man...and she knows he "belongs" to her...but how can she break through that invisible wall that he has built around him. One night, she finally finds the opening to reach him: she is given two theater tickets and she invites Lachlan...with interesting results.

Magick Men: A Shot of Magick is, if memory serves, Rhyannon Byrd's first title published by Ellora's Cave...and quite a debut it is. In this charming and intensely erotic paranormal short story, we are introduced to a new world of magick involving the McKendricks. Evan is a very modern and assertive woman (in a positive way). She knows that Lachlan and her belong together and she wants him, realizing that there is more than meets the eye to Lachlan. She goes for it, even knowing that he is less than receptive to an overture. Lachlan is the perfect brooding highlander. Sexy, alpha...and sexually frustrated as all get out. The love scenes are intense and quite hot. In this book we also get to meet who hopefully will be the hero of the upcoming title in this series, Lachlan's cousin Kieran. Rhyannon Byrd is proving to be a force to be reckoned with as a writer, and I certainly recommend Magick Men: A Shot of Magick to add to your collection.
