College student Jane Holland decides to take a trip to Europe during her summer break. While there she feels drawn to the homeland of her ancestors, Sicily, unbeknownst to her mother. The whole time Jane was growing up she heard her mother's degrading words about their Sicilian ancestry. With that in mind, Jane's trip had to remain a secret.
In Palermo, Jane is welcomed into the home of a friend of her mother's. It is there she meets handsome and very rich, Prince Lorenzo. After spending time together he gives Jane an amulet passed to him from his grandfather. When Jane accepts the amulet she has no idea the mystery surrounding the gift.
Author Jo Manning pens a compelling tale of romance, secrets, kidnapping, and more in The Sicilian Amulet. The vivid details Manning gives of the country makes one feel like they are walking the vineyards with Jane and Lorenzo. Admittedly, for the first six chapters one wonders if they are reading a love story or a travelogue. But once the story begins to unfold, watch out. From chapter seven until the end, the book is fast-paced, exciting, and hard to put down. I read until my eyes were burning from lack of sleep.
Jo Manning also wrote, Seducing Mr. Heywood. I know I will be looking for more from this author.
