Traditions play a big part of many of our lives, and one of my very favorite traditions is fast becoming the eager anticipation of Debbie Macomberís latest Christmas story. She has yet to disappoint.

This yearís offering is When Christmas Comes. Emily was a young widow, and determined that the daughter she was left to raise alone would always have a memorable Christmas. This year is no different, and she is eager for Heather to arrive home, so that all the Christmas preparations can go into full swing. Heather, a college student at Harvard, has a very different idea of how she wants to spend Christmas. She tells Emily that she is unable to come home for Christmas, but not the full reason why.

In her despair over Heatherís refusal to come home, Emily turns to her good friend Faith for some words of comfort. Faith however doesnít quite offer the support that Emily is looking for, as she is somewhat supportive of Heatherís decisions to exert her independence. Faithsí words however do inspire Emily to surprise her daughter in Boston.

Emily isnít the only one planning a surprise. After not hearing from Emily for a week, when the two friends are in daily contact by e-mail, Faith decides maybe she was a bit harsh, and changes her plans so that she can be spending Christmas with Emily at her home. The Christmas that each woman is planning doesnít turn out to be the exact Christmas of their dreams. Will it be better? Will it be life altering?

What about Heather? Is she having the Christmas of her dreams? Heather herself is having a Christmas way different than any she has previously experienced. Will she be forever changed, or will she decide to embrace the spirit of Christmas that her mother has tried to instill in her over the years.

What would Christmas be without some romance thrown in? Ms. Macomber is not known for her steamy writing, but she does show her readers how love can blossom and grow when we least expect it, and isnít that just one small miracle of the Christmas season? Faith, Emily, and Heather will also find a Christmas full of the miracle of the season.

When Christmas Comes is a fast paced read that will keep its readers glued to the pages. Ms. Macomber is a shining star in the world of Womenís fiction, and she has yet to disappoint this particular reader.
