Elizabeth Marcum is determined that her and her baby will escape the Young Believers compound that she has now discovered is not the refuge she once sought but a dangerous compound filled with weapons run by the man who calls himself Mordecai. Mordecai claims to hear the voice of God and will do anything those voices tell him including kill.

Elizabeth Marcum was only a young runaway when she became friends with a young girl on the streets named Jewel. They had heard about a place called the Young Believers where teenage girls could run for refuge. If only Elizabeth had realized just how crazy Mordecai was before she slept with him and eventually gave birth to his child.

Before Elizabeth and Jewel can complete their plan to escape, chaos erupts inside the compound and Elizabeth is shot by one of the federal marshals. She only has time to put her baby in Jewels arms and tell her to raise her as her own, before she collapses.

When Joshua Kendall sees the young, beautiful blonde girl collapse it changes his life forever, as he is positive he has killed her. Unbeknownst to him, neither Elizabeth nor Mordecai died that night.

It is only years later that Josh will get the opportunity to come to Vermont undercover and protect the girl that he thought he killed all those years ago. However the Elizabeth that he meets is nothing like the innocent, young girl from years ago. Smart, tough and totally in control of her life, Elizabeth isn’t looking for anyone’s help however Mordecai is drawing closer and closer and now everyone close to Elizabeth will find their lives in serious danger.

Fans like myself who had been waiting anxiously for the sequel to Thicker Than Water, will not be disappointed. Once again I was quickly involved in the story and anxious to see a happy ending for Elizabeth, her daughter and Josh.
