Author Jane Blackwood’s reputation for writing sexy heroes and sassy, lovable heroines, adding lots of good humor into the mix, and throwing in a few side sub plots, is very much evident in this newest book.
Declan McDonald has been a ‘voluntary recluse’ for two years now, letting the world assume he was dead. Believing that his fame cost his brother his life, Declan has retreated from the outside world, determined not to let anyone get close to him again. But he doesn’t count on the new turn his life takes when he hires a chef to cook for him. He’s about to realize that you just can’t hide forever.
Rosie Pisano can’t believe the outrageous salary she’s getting by being a chef to some recluse she never sees, only talks to over an intercom system. She’s dying of curiosity about her employer but doesn’t want to jeopardize this ideal job situation. An accidental meeting between her and Declan will suddenly change things for them both.
Declan is over cautious about getting involved with Rosie, and does his best to keep them at arm’s length. Rosie’s spunky spirit won’t let him hold off for long, and he finds himself falling under her irresistible spell.
This was a fun read, though I wish Declan would have been a bit more assertive and make up his mind sooner. Ms. Blackwood interweaves great humor scenes that are laugh-out-loud, and brings out Rosie’s character to perfection.
All in all, a good read for an afternoon. This reviewer will definitely look for more of Ms. Blackwood’s books.
