Josie Dupre is the business half of Dupre Catering, a family tradition situated in a city where family traditions are firmly rooted - New Orleans. Along with her twin sister Kitty, they have continued to carry on after the death of their beloved parents, even moving back to their childhood home. But things never stay the same, and Josie is feeling anxious. Kitty is getting married, and although it wonít affect the business, Josie is starting to feel the personal separation from her sister and closest friend. Luckily, she has Rosie, her fluffy little white dog to keep her company
It seems unbelievable to Josie that her dog would form an unusual attachment to an exhuberant Boxer named Zip, but all the signs are there, and the feeling appears to be mutual. The dogs hate to be apart, and all kinds of circumstances keep forcing Josie and Zipís owner, Paul Brouillette together. Of course, he is sexy and successful, so things arenít all bad!
Paul would love to get to know the spunky caterer better, if only his business and family would stop getting in the way. He finally has several loose ends coming together, though, and Josie is a real distraction.
About three chapters in to Listen to Your Heart, I could see where the book was headed. Usually this is a bad sign, because it means that the plot is too obvious. However, in this case, author Fern Michaels has some detours along the way that made this book jump from ordinary to interesting, from a standard romance to one that makes the reader sigh when she reaches the final page. The book is short, and would make a great addition to your beach bag or suitcase for vacation reading. Be sure to check out the Cajun recipes, too!
