Three prisoners are at the courthouse for appearances when another prisoner makes an escape attempt. The three prisoners are taken to a room and held together while all available police personnel look for the escaped man. Having nothing to do but wait Vince Giordano, Archer Lowell and Curtis Channing begin to discuss the circumstances that led them to prison. Before long they are making lists of people they would “off” if they had the chance. Each person switches his list with another prisoner and when they are free each person will “take care of” the list he now has. It would be the perfect crime, as no one would suspect the person who does the crime and the person who would have motive would have a solid alibi. Boy that would be a fun game the prisoners decide.

Archer Lowell has served his time and has recently been released from prison. FBI agents Miranda Cahill and Will Fletcher are brought together to work on a case. The two have a past and Miranda would rather work with someone else but doesn’t make waves…well not too many.

Recent events have led the FBI to believe that Archer Lowell may have a hit list of sorts from a fellow prisoner he served time with. Miranda and Will are given the job of handling the investigation to try and find out who Archer may decide to kill.

To give you too many more details might give away some of the wonderful suspense of this book so I will leave the description at that.

Dead Even is the crowing jewel of this remarkable trilogy by the ever-talented Mariah Stewart. I found this book to be the best of the three. Just when the reader thinks she has everything figured out Ms. Stewart throws another twist or turn in the mix. Ms. Stewart has created a highly suspenseful story that will keep the reader on the edge of their seat until the last page has been turned.

The “Dead trilogy” has been added to my keeper shelf and proves just why Ms. Stewart has become one of the premier authors writing romantic suspense today. She is at the top of her game and appears to be staying around for a while. Rumor has it that Ms. Stewart has another trilogy planned for release next year. I will defiantly be first in line.
