Lucas Jordan, the latest addition to the FBI’s Special Crimes Unit lead by Special Agent Noah Bishop, is able to lock on to a missing person by using their fear like a homing beacon to locate them. Even before he joined the SCU Lucas used his extraordinary ability to help law enforcement across the country recover missing persons. This time Lucas is called in to assist on an apparently routine kidnapping for ransom in Clayton County, North Carolina. However, this is no run-of-the-mill kidnapping but an intricate deadly game designed by a minded twisted and broken beyond all reasoning. The distraction of a visit from Lucas’ past adds a dangerous tenor to this investigation.

The police ignored previous warnings from carnival psychic Samantha Burke but when recent cautions bear fruit she becomes a likely suspect. Her predictions complicate an already stalled investigation and her presence adds even more tension behind the scenes. The killer is already several moves ahead of them and no one knows the rules. When his opponent extends a personal invitation Lucas wastes no time rising to the challenge.

Hunting Fear blew me away. The plot is great and very easy to become invested in. The characters are wonderfully three dimensional and in no way boring or dull. I love this series for its serious treatment of extra sensory abilities. It takes it out of the realm of science fiction and into the mainstream of possibility. Fast paced, fascinating, and fabulously well written, Hunting Fear will thrill you.
