Nora Buckley is in her own personal hell. Her absolute worst nightmare has come true – her husband is having an affair with a younger woman. Worse yet is his intention to divorce Nora, marry his young mistress, and leave Nora with nothing. After twenty-six years as a dutiful housewife and mother of two, Nora is devastated by his decision.

Her friends, the ladies of Ansley Court, comfort her the best they can. They push their regular Monday morning ritual of coffee and gossip aside when a desperate Nora comes to them for help. The ladies introduce Nora to a whole new world filled with passionate promise. Her friends clue her into their delicious secret, The Channel.

The Channel is an alternate reality specifically for women. In the Channel they can realize a world of sensual delights, indulge their darkest fantasies, and explore the limits of their sexuality. Inside the Channel, Nora comes face to face with her ideal fantasy man as well as the woman she never knew she had in her. Soon she realizes the true possibilities that this fantastic realm holds. However, Nora forgets one inescapable fact – everything has its price.

Private Pleasures, Bertrice Small’s first contemporary novel is fascinating. It is one of the best erotic novels I have read this year. It has just enough romance to satisfy my greedy little self, is chock full of eroticism, and introduces a contemporary heroine who could easily be anyone’s next-door neighbor. With her trademark savvy, sassy, and sensuality all wrapped up in one seriously beguiling package, Ms. Small has delivered a winner with this one.
