Maybe This Christmas is a duo of holiday stories from acclaimed romance writer Janet Dailey.
In the first story, Darling Jenny, Jennifer Glenn is running from a failed romance with her boss. During her escape to Jackson Hole, she falls straight into the arms of good-looking rancher Logan Taylor. Despite her past experience, Jennifer is strongly attracted to the charismatic Logan. Perhaps, little Jenny has finally found true love? Maybe, if she can ignore the fact that he’s in love with her sister.
Strange Bedfellow depicts the life of Dina Chandler, a woman startled by her husband, Blake’s return from the dead, especially since she is engaged to his best friend. All that kept Blake alive while he was stranded in the jungle was the thought of Dina waiting for him, and now that he’s back, he’s going to do everything he can to make his dream a reality.
Darling Jenny is a heartwarming story with engaging characters. Although I enjoyed the multiple story lines in this tale, some of the characters’ assumptions were slightly silly and the relationships would have been more convincing without them. Nevertheless, Darling Jenny was a pleasant diversion, highly due in part to Logan’s charming yet assertive personality.
Unfortunately, Strange Bedfellow didn’t read as well. The story was unbelievable, as Dina and Blake seemed to have no chemistry at all. It was extremely difficult to imagine the two of them together even before Blake’s disappearance. As such, the entire story was a tiresome read for me.
Normally a huge fan of Janet Dailey’s, I’ll have to pass on this one. There’s only so much room on my bookshelf.
