Kissed by Magic is a wonderful tale of how unpredictable falling in love can be. Allegro and Largo are two fairies that have been given the impossible task of making the Black Falcon fall in love with Phaidra Moore, a notorious spinster. Kain Addison has been dubbed the Black Falcon by society, after the suspicious death of his older brother. Having shunned society, Kain does not want anything except the formal for Nottingham blue dye. Unfortunately for him the formula happens to be the dowry of one Phaidra Moore, spinster, hoyden, and the designer of the ugliest hats ever to grace society. With the help of the fairies Kain and Phaidra must discover true love before it is too late for all those involved.
Gloria Harcharís new novel was an amusing read from beginning to end. The characters of Largos and Allegro and the rest of the fairy cast, give this book a unique flavor. I also enjoyed the independence that Phaidra showed, which could be seen as unusual for a character of this time period. Kain makes a wonderful hero; misunderstood and brooding, all he needs is a woman who understands him; and while this may seem trite, it really works for this novel. I also enjoyed the paranormal aspect of this novel; the parallel world of the fairies gives the reader a glimpse into a place few could imagine. However; while the paranormal is present, it does not take over the book nor detract from the story line. The plot with its many twists and turns helps the reader discover who these characters really are and what makes them finally fall in love. I would recommend this novel to anyone who loves a sweet love story with a humorous twist, and the taste of the paranormal. I canít wait for Harcharís next novel.
