In Golden Lies author Barbara Freethy has written a story of the East meeting the West. Sheís also written a story where the legends and traditions of the past are clashing with the new demands of the present. Golden Lies is steeped in tradition and a true blending of romance and suspense.
At the beginning of Golden Lies Riley McAlisterís grandmother has decided to clean her attic. She takes her hidden treasures to an antique show that is in town. It is here that itís discovered that one of her items may be an ancient Chinese Dragon, part of a three piece set which has been missing for years.
The dragon attracts the attention of many art/antique dealers, but Nan decides that she will entrust her dragon to none other than Hathawayís. Paige Hathaway has been selected to serve a traditional tea to Nan, Riley, and Nanís neighbor while her father David examines the dragon. Nan never thinks about the consequences that the discovery of the dragon will have not only on her family but of the Hathaway family as well.
As the story progresses Riley and Paige are thrown together, and must fight the attraction that they feel for one another. There are untold secrets on both sides of the family. As Paige and Riley uncover one secret, another is revealed. Will the secrets bring these families together or destroy them forever?
When I started reading Golden Lies I was not prepared for the story I ended up with. In the first few pages my thoughts were, "Iím not sure I can get through this book". However it didnít take very many pages before my thoughts turned to "I can not put this down, I need to know what happens next". Ms. Freethy is turning into an auto-buy author for me.
