Patricia Potter’s newest novel Cold Target tells the story of two sisters who are both haunted by a secret that has been hidden from them for most of their lives. Meredith Rawson believes that she is living her dream. As a lawyer she is busy helping women who are abused by their husbands. This fulfilling work gives her life purpose and makes her feel useful. However, when her mother falls ill, she reveals a secret to Meredith which shatters her world. Meredith discovers that she has a half sister who was given away at birth. When Meredith’s mother asks her to find her missing sister, Meredith is thrust into a dangerous game. Aided by detective Gage Gaynor, Meredith begins to look for her sister.

Meredith’s sister Holly is also on the run. Although she has no idea she has a sister, she is instead fleeing from a ruthless husband. On the run with her son, Holly settles in a small town in Arizona where she finds her own love in the town sheriff. In order to survive Meredith and Holly must learn to trust the men in their lives before they both end up dead!

This book is masterfully written, containing two intertwining love stories; Cold Target lets the reader experience two very different lives in the same story. Potter carefully orchestrates the two stories, giving the reader and enjoyable book that does not confuse him or her and yet is complex enough to maintain his or her attention. The authors writing skills interweave two very different stories into one seamless story. The relationship between Meredith and Holly and their love interests are passionate and filled with sparks and yet still leave the reader with a good feeling about both relationships.

Cold Target is also a wonderful suspense novel, which leaves the reader wondering what will happen next. The plot contains two murderous villains who are both after Meredith and Holly and all those they hold dear. There are also surprises in the plot on almost every page which give the reader incentive to keep reading in order to find out what is going to happen next. Cold Target is a wonderful novel the curl up with on a cold winter's night and will give the reader a wonderful feeling when he or she is finished reading it.
