When the Earl of Culberry passed away, leaving his lands to his nephew Peter Kilkern, the new lord did not waste any time in changing the rules. What was once a prosperous, thriving village soon became a dangerously impoverished, starving one. Tired of living under the rule of a despot and seeing her people suffer, Reena decides to seek the help of the Legend. Dressed as a man, she travels to his land. She will offer him her skills as a mapmaker in exchange for his assistance.
When Reena meets Magnus, whom most know as The Legend, she does not expect to find such a devastatingly handsome man. However, he gives her hope, as he listens to her plight and seems interested in the bargain she is trying to strike with him.
Magnus, impressed with Reena`s bravery, her intelligence, and of course, her drawing talent, accepts Reena`s offer of her services as a mapmaker, in exchange for his protection and assistance to her fellow villagers.
Donna Fletcher`s Legendary Warrior is a nicely written historical romance set in 16th Century Ireland. The reader can not help but feel drawn to this beautifully written story and quite compelling and engaging characters. Reena is a very perceptive, intelligent, and a strong woman who is very aware of her disadvantages and limitations as a female, but who does not hesitate to use that intelligence and her abilities to help the people that she loves.
Magnus has been a victim of circumstances who has seen a lot of suffering. He is also a misunderstood man. Reena is the first woman that truly attracts him not because of her external beauty but because of her inner beauty and the fact that she has seen beyond what other people see. Reena and Magnus see beyond the obvious, appreciating what each other has to offer, slowly falling in love and going in deeper the further they uncover each layer of their respective personalities. Once I started the book I could not put it down. Legendary Warrior is a truly romantic story of love and discovery that will appeal to all romance readers.
