The husband and wife team of May McGoldrick bring us another delightful tale of adventure, history and most of all - romance.

Portia Edwards will go to any length to find the family that she has never known. All of her life, she has believed that she is an orphan, until she discovers that her mother is alive and being held a virtual captive in Portia’s grandfather’s home in Boston. In order to free her mother, Portia must enlist the help of someone more powerful and resourceful than she. But will she be able to find the courage to ask the one man who can help her or will she let her pride stand in the way?

Pierce Pennington is one of Boston’s most respectable and successful merchants. By day he runs one of the biggest shipping lines in Boston, by night he becomes the infamous Captain MacHeath, who smuggles arms by sea under the darkness of night, all in the name of liberty’s sake.

When Portia approaches Pierce in enlisting his help, he has a hard time saying no, although he desperately wants to. Her kind of trouble he doesn’t need. But when she steals into a masquerade ball given by her grandfather, he finds that her courage far outweighs his conviction of not helping her. If he doesn’t come to her aid, she’s going to get them both killed!

Portia is a very prideful, strong young woman. She has seen many hard times in her young life and can take care of herself. Pierce on the other hand, has had a good life and an even more successful business. But when these two, very different personalities join forces, stand back and watch the sparks fly.

May McGoldrick have a flair for romance; that far surpass many of their counterparts in the genre. I give them a lot of credit for working together to bring us romance and adventure, to help up escape our everyday lives. Any book written by this wonderful team of writers is a keeper!
