The popular writing team of Tony and Lori Karayianni (Tori Carrington) has kicked off their Kiss and Tell series with Night Fever. In this book we meet workaholic doc Layla Hollister, who devotes all her spare time to a free clinic. While she has the looks of a runway model, she has some issues about her appearance. Living in LA, the land of beautiful people, is not helping her self-esteem, either.
When her three closest friends back out of a dinner date, the lovely doctor strikes up a conversation with a handsome man sitting next to her at the bar. The conversation steers toward work, and Layla reveals that she is not looking forward to meeting her new boss, a well-known plastic surgeon. As the flirtation continues, Layla discovers that this sexy stranger is just what she needs to rev up her libido. When she is paged away on an emergency, she is sorry to see the night end - she didnít even get his name!
Sam Lovejoy has no doubts that he will be seeing a lot more of Layla in the near future. Yes, you guessed it - he is her new boss. But mixing business with pleasure has never looked more appealing as he and Layla explore their incendiary attraction.
Night Fever has a lot going for it. The main characters are sexy and appealing. We get to meet the secondary characters who will make up the other books in the series. However, I had some issues with the whole self-esteem angle of Laylaís character. I just donít see how someone who has survived med school and is such a success can be so conflicted about who she is. It just didnít strike a sympathetic chord with me, personally. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series, though, and am very intrigued by her cadre of loyal friends.
