Annabel wanted to reach her friendís estate. To make it safer for her to travel dressed as a man, but when her escort deserted her she was forced to accept the arrogant Horatioís help. Horatio was on his way to the same estate and had to admit he was quite attracted to this woman, and he was on the market for a wife.

Horatio had been a soldier for too long as the manners required to woo a lady of gentle sensibilities were lost on him! Well Annabel was no simpering debutante but a forthright lady of three and twenty! So watch the sparks begin to fly! And they do from the first meeting between this pair.

I found the style of writing similar to Georgette Heyer. So I fell upon this story with delight and I was not disappointed. The humor and the depths of the characters are really good. The pace of the plot will keep the reader hooked from the start of this story to the last words.

The characters of Sebastian, Annabelís father, and her friend Masripal, and Marsipalís husband Jonathan and the delightful Aunt Bebe, all add color to this delightful tale. It has a great plotline and is a delightful romp.

I loved the way the author describes all the settings, she really brings the place or the room the characters are in to life. It adds a wonderfully realistic feel to the story and I felt transported to the era the book is set in. Joan M. Fox knows her period setting well and this gives extra color to the story.

I really enjoyed this story and while this is the first time I have read a book of hers, I hope to read many more in the future. I can easily recommend this book it gets a full five roses from me.
