Return Engagement is the newest book by author Lynn Michaels. It is the story of Noah Patrick and Lindsay Varner who in their younger days were co-stars of a now cult classic television show called Betwixt and Between.

Return Engagement is the name of a new play written by Lindsay’ sister, Jolie and is going to reunite the two former co-stars. Who stands to benefit the most from a successful run of the play remains a mystery for quite some time. As Noah works to figure this out, readers will delight in his transformation from a drunk contemplating suicide to puppet that is unsure who is really pulling his strings to being the puppet master.

As Noah gains strength and confidence Lindsay is dealing with recurring panic attacks. As she finally gives into her family’s sixth sense her attacks abide and she revels in her renewed love of Noah. She is also amazed at how Noah has managed to fit into her family’s lifestyle, and at the way her family totally accepts him as a part of them.

Return Engagement has a wide varied cast of secondary characters who while kooky are lovable. I believe every reader will see shades of at least one personal relative or friend in the Varner family tree. This book did not have me laughing out loud as Ms. Michael’s previous book did, however it did keep me turning pages. Return Engagement is a romantic comedy that will leave its readers wishing for a relationship like Lindsey’s and Noah’s even with all its ups and downs.
