A movie star since childhood, Mona Poole; now in her early twenties, wants to be a normal girl. What better place to experience normal life than UCLA. There, Mona meets Timothy Scott, the universityís star quarterback. The two fall in love and marry. Both are looking forward to the bright future ahead of them; Tim, a professional football career and Mona, a fresh start in the acting world.

When an accident ends Timothyís football career, the game plan changes, and Mona and Timothy are forced to reevaluate their lives and their love. Their choices may destroy their marriage.

Despite the general editing mistakes and choppy writing technique, Stars Shine After Dark still managed to capture my interest. The idea of the story, a couple who started out one way and grew in a totally different manner, was intriguing and well conceived.

Although the characters were not as well rounded as I would have preferred, they still evoked emotions from me. Reading Timís struggle with his frustrations was a moving experience. The author skillfully covered the temptations offered to Tim as well as his determination to remain true to Mona. I went through phases on Monaís character. One moment, I liked her as a person; the next I didnít. This ambivalence kept me turning the pages.

All in all, I believe Paula Hrbacek shows much promise as an author, and I canít wait to read her next effort. In time, sheíll undoubtedly be a literary star.
