Amanda came back to her home, the only one that felt like home anyway. When Mr. Kincannon died, he left her part of the ranch that her father was once the foreman of. She didnít know how she could stand to be on the ranch with Jesse Kincannon, but she would if he decided to show up. Amanda had a crush on Jesse when she was younger and she thought she was over Jesse, well that is until he decided to show up on the ranch and stay. Amanda was strong and independent, but also had some misgivings and misunderstandings between her father and mother, that left her feeling like a little girl again. Which is something that she didnít like at all.
Jesse came back to the ranch for a number of reasons, one of those reasons, happened to be Amanda. With trouble striking the ranch with pretty much only Amanda and a few ranch hands to take care of the troubles and fix them, he knew he had to find out what was going on. One of the other reasons was Amanda herself. He had feelings for her, had since Amanda first showed up on the ranch. Could Jesse make Amanda see that he wasnít the low-life that she thought him to be?
There were plenty of misunderstandings, hurt feelings, sabotage and the attraction between Jesse and Amanda that had not diminished in the time they were apart but only stronger now that they are once again on the ranch. Maverick had some comical moments in the story as well, between Jesse and Amanda. It was great to see the love they both had for one another, the fighting and finally the downfall of them both to that love.
Maverick is the first published book by Cindy Gerard. If you can find it, do read it. It is a great first book by an author and one not to be missed. Her writing style will draw you in and not let you escape until you read the last word of the story.
