If you liked or loved Tropical Getaway, then you are in for a real treat with French Twist. Where else can you have an ex-thief and an art historian as the hero and heroine? French Twist gives you the mystery, suspense and an undercover art smuggling ring in France.
Janine is supposed to be married but calls the wedding off, due to some extra curricular activity by her fiancé. So off she goes to France to win the position of the curator as Albert was murdered before he was able to showcase the Sèvres vases, or the Pompadour Plum as Janine calls them to the world, and to show them he was not as crazy as everyone thought he was. Janine does get the job of curator and now she has to contend with Nick Jarrett, aka Luc Trumont. Janine isn’t one to be pushed or bossed around, she can definitely hold her own against anyone. Well, Luc can and does get the better of her several times but she also turns the tables on him as well.
Nick is the head of security for the exhibit of the Plums. He moves them to another location that Janine is not happy with at all and doesn’t hesitate to let him know. Nick is a man of many talents, as he gave up stealing art five years before and now he is in on the security for keeping priceless artifacts safe from the underworld. Nick is a take charge, loner type of man. He doesn’t get close to anyone and he can’t afford to even let them know who he really is.
The attraction between Nick and Janine is there from the start. One scene in the book sticks out, it has to due with what happens when they get pulled over by the police. The scene made me laugh as I could picture it taking place. Even though they are attracted to each other they are sort of enemies as well, as neither really trust the other at first and it takes them being in danger and having to survive the plot to kill them and find the missing Plums, in order for their love to blossom and take shape.
You will find the same elements in French Twist as you did in Tropical Getaway, the places are described with details and the atmosphere is fabulous. Making you wish you were along for the ride as they fight against time and enemies unknown to find the Plums. The story is fast paced and will keep you enthralled until the very end. The secondary characters kept Nick and Janine on their toes and I am hoping that two characters might someday get their own story told. French Twist is only the second book by Roxanne St. Claire, after her first she went on my auto-buy list. Ms. St. Claire is an upcoming author that is not to be missed.
