Kaeli Jackson gets mugged as she’s walking to a club to meet with friends. However, this strong woman turns the tide on her would be mugger and ends up with his wallet. As she is watching the boy run away, she hears clapping coming from a darkened door way.

Navarre Lyssandro came upon the mugging just as Kaeli gains control of the situation and decides to watch what’s happening. Together they enter the club only to go their separate ways. When Kaeli spies Navarre leaving the club later, and after some pushing by her friends, she decides to follow him in an attempt to get to know him better. However, she stumbles upon something that is going to change her, and her life.

While this is a rather short story the reader is not left feeling that something is missing. There is instant attraction, suspense, action, and a life or death decision made, all without causing the reader to feel overwhelmed in such a short amount of space. Kaeli is a kick-ass-take-no-prisoners type of woman. She sees what she wants and goes after it with guns drawn, so to speak. Navarre is honorable, in that he tries to push Kaeli away in order to save her life.

The action in this story had me on the edge of my seat as often as the sex scenes did. I really enjoyed this second Carnal story by Celeste Anwar, and even though it does stand alone from the first story, the underlying, almost secondary, overall plot of the two books are intertwined. This makes the reading of the first story helpful in understanding the emotions in the second story. If you enjoy vampires, werewolves, and alpha females this book is a definite must read and a keeper.
