Denise (Deni) Correa, bookstore owner, is being harassed. The harassment incidents started over the internet, but they have escalated. Urged by a close friend, Deni decides to enroll in a self-defense class. She also buys a Labrador puppy. The one and only self-defense lesson that she takes proves to be beyond invaluable.

Rick Hunter, P.I. and security specialist, reluctantly agrees to give some self-defense lessons at the mall. After becoming nothing short of a hermit, his attraction to the attractive brunette with the big brown eyes is unsettling, to say the least.

Circumstances bring Deni and Rick together when her stalker starts threatening her life. Neither one of them is too happy about having to work together to catch the stalker, but Deni`s life is on the line.

In Self Defense Elaine Hopper brings us a well written contemporary suspense romance. The story is well paced and it has a twist to the ending that you will not want to miss. I must say that Rick makes a very appealing and tender hero, despite his stubbornness. Deni can not help but fall for Rick, although he is determined to give her a hard time. A loner by choice, forced by certain circumstances (read the book to find what those are) he has a difficult time admitting to his feelings. Self Defense will certainly appeal to lovers of romantic suspense and to those who fancy a good, quick read. I am keeping my eyes open for Ms. Hopper`s future offerings.
