Genevieve Camden is a proper chaperone to her cousin Charlotte. She follows all the rules and makes sure that Charlotte does not get into trouble. Genny knows the consequences of breaking the rules and allowing passion to rule. Therefore, she is very uncomfortable when she has a run in with her rule breaking past, Leo Harrow, Earl of Barrington. He is still handsome and charming as ever, but she will not let him win this time. She will keep her heart and her knickers to herself. The more Genny tries to keep her guard up, the more Leo is breaking it down. Genny cannot afford to lose her heart again. This time it will destroy her life.
Lord Barrington, Leo, is surprised to find that chit he played with years ago is an on the shelf spinster. He sees her trying to be the proper chaperone, but he knows the passion that lies within. Leoís name is always tied up in Londonís gossip rags, but now seeing Genny again has made him what to change the person he is and be a better man, whatever that means. When a secret gets out and threatens to destroy Gennyís life and reputation, it is up to Leo to save the day, if she will let him.
Wicked Nights with a Proper Lady is a pretty good read. You will enjoy the cat and mouse game between Leo and Genny. I always enjoy stories about crossing the English caste system line. This read is enjoyable; if a little slow in getting to the point. Also, there are things presented that the reader wants to know more about, but Ms Clare cleverly leaves you guessing.
