Jorja Grace, Danny, Celeste, Rachel, and Casey are the best of friends. They’ve known each other for years and have shared the good times as well as the bad. Now, things are changing again. Jorja has a new job and possibly a new man. Celeste, who has no maternal instinct, finds herself pregnant. Secrets are threatening Danny’s world, and Rachel and Casey are struggling in the reach for their dreams.
As each of them follows life’s often rocky current, will the bonds of friendship keep them afloat or will changing times and denied realities destroy everything they thought they knew?
Every once in while there comes along a fresh new voice in fiction, which can turn simple words and phrases into eloquently written dramatic poetry. That new voice belongs to Darrious Hilmon. With five dimes, Hilmon rewards readers with a profoundly, insightful glimpse into the lives of five friends.
Although the dialogue is slightly repetitious at times (Celeste’s overuse of the word sugah for example became annoying after a while), the story still manages to maintain a lively and hip flavor from start to finish.
What contributes so greatly to the vibrancy of this novel are the characters. They are outstanding. Each one is engaging enough to fill her or her own novel. I would especially love to read more about Danny as he continues his search for happiness.
All things considered, this is one heck of a good book. This is one reader who is eagerly anticipating future works by Darrious Hilmon.
