Well, it happened! By the merest chance, an afternoon’s browsing in my bookstore netted me this rare treasure of an erotic tale. The Wicked Stepdaughter of the title isn’t really wicked, she’s just...well, she’s sexual. Very sexual. So sexual that men around her tend to go on point when she walks past.
And she knows it, uses it, and mostly has fun with it. Until her business life runs aground, and money issues force her into a potentially dangerous situation with a creditor named Luca. Enough said. Of course, in the background is Gervaise, the annoyingly-immune-to-her-charms guest, who is staying at her house. There are a lot more characters in this book, all of whom are spellbinding, delightful, and play a role in the complex life that carries Selina along like a rip tide.
The wonder of this book is that it takes all these elements, expands them with extraordinarily hot sex, and yet keeps a firm sense of humor. I’ve seldom laughed aloud when reading erotica, but found myself subsiding into giggles more than once. Ms. Harris’s turn of phrase could rival anything on TV at the moment, in fact it could beat the thong off most of it.
A note – it is very British in tone. So learn about fish and chips, beans on toast, and the myriad other English slang words that creep into the dialogue. They didn’t detract from the pleasure of this story for me, and I doubt they will for you either. I highly recommend this book to any erotica reader, because lots of sex presented with a good sense of humor makes for a wonderfully fulfilling read.
