Hot Zone is coming to Chicago, and Helen Rhodes wants no part of it! The owner of a popular cyber café, Helen is convinced that the upscale club, featuring hot tubs, hot massage and hot java, will put her and the other small business in the area out of business. Besides, there have been some disturbing rumors about “accidents” happening to local businesses that coincide with the opening of Hot Zones in other cities.
Helen and her friends organize a peaceful protest, trying to draw attention to their concerns. When a sexy stranger offers to carry Helen’s sign, she is glad to have his support. The gratitude is only momentary as he introduces himself as Luke DeVries, the hotshot businessman behind all of the Hot Zone success. When he asks Helen for a date, she decides that the reason she accepted is not because he is drop-dead gorgeous (of course not) but because she wants to find his weakness.
Frankly, the only weakness this dynamic couple has is the instantaneous attraction they have for each other! These two smolder through the pages like a slow flame, erupting into scenes of steamy passion.
When strange “accidents” start happening to Helen and her business, Luke is alarmed. Why is someone trying to sabotage his efforts and Helen’s livelihood? The mystery is intriguing, with several suspects, and is not revealed until the final pages. There were plenty of red herrings, and I had not selected the real villain, either.
Hot Zone is an interesting mix of sensual love scenes and romantic suspense that is blended together well. Readers will enjoy the passionate love scenes as well as the “whodunit.”
