Honestly, how can anyone peruse a bookshop with all that racket? Jilly Jones has got to get a little cooperation from her new neighbor if her store is going to succeed. Armed with valid concerns, she arrives on the doorstep of 34 Dreare Street prepared to do battle. She is not prepared to be charmed.
Captain Stephen Arrow has inherited the ramshackle residence and found it to be the perfect place to enjoy his time on land. He and his crew need this time away from their shipboard duties and he indulges them. He knows that their high spirits can get a little out of hand, but surely no one is going to deny them a few days of play as long as no one is harmed. Besides, the residence will go up for sale as soon as his next assignment is received so this is a one-time invasion of Dreare Street. His neighbors will just have to turn a deaf ear.
Stephen finds Miss Jones to be exactly the sort of woman who does not usually interest him – but he is still intrigued. Her winsome attempts to engage her neighbors and her sunny attitude in this gloomy part of London are refreshing. When a threat to her livelihood reveals itself, the hero hidden beneath his devilish good humor comes to the forefront. He will not stand by and let her dreams be shattered.
The third book in the Impossible Bachelor series, Cloudy with a Chance of Marriage is a delight, the title notwithstanding. Jilly and her flamboyant assistant Otis steal every scene they are in. Stephen is a more traditional character, but he too has hidden depths. Author Kieran Kramer may be relatively new to readers, but she has all of the skills needed to enchant and entertain them.
