A friend urged me to read Linda Castilloís books. Iím very glad I listened.
Detective Sergeant Adam Boedecker is looking for the cause behind his dead brotherís suicide and murdering rage. Coming across a series of similar violent acts committed by recipients of the new antidepressant Valazine, he sets out to find out more about the drug and its assumed side effects.
Dr. Elizabeth Barnes has helped bring the new antidepressant to the market. It earned her a highly acclaimed science award. She lives for her career and Valazine is everything she worked for. Dating is not on her agenda, and her growing and ill-advised attraction to a burnt-out cop looking for answers that might cost her her job, and her passion, is an entanglement she wants and needs to avoid.
When another murder happens, and this one much closer to home Elizabeth gets scared and desperate. Clinging to any warmth, even when itís coming from a rogue cop, she finds she is not the running kind. Not wanting to see but needing to, she investigates.
Elizabeth risks everything for Adam and in doing so she gets under his skin. And no matter how much he lashes out in emotional and physical pain, she is not one to run.
Linda Castillo writes a breathtaking and awesome ride to a climax that is all one could ask for in a romantic suspense. Lots of praise was given her for her first Berkley release, The Perfect Victim. The Shadow Side proves how well deserved it all is.
The story is so well-crafted it held me spellbound. And the romance of Adam and Elizabeth keeps it all together, giving the characters strength and courage and the readers moments of tenderness, love and sexual explosion.
Linda Castillo is definitely now on my not-to-be-missed list. I gladly recommend her as an author to watch.
