Venus Gilroy hopes that the third time is the charm where husbands are concerned. After her first two marriages ended in divorce, she really wants this one to work. There is just one little problem: she is not totally convinced that her fiancé, Tremaynne, is committed to the wedding and happily-ever-after. He is an unemployed environmentalist who became a media star when he spent 77 days protesting in a tree.
If the wedding itself wasn’t enough to cause anxiety, Venus’ unconventional parents only add fuel to the fire. Venus’ dad and his partner, her “faux pa”, have finally decided to have a commitment ceremony after 20-years of togetherness. Her mother’s latest attempt at therapy involves dressing up in a clown suit and confronting your fears with a squirting flower and squeaky nose! They all want to be involved in the nuptials. In fact, her dad has offered to pay for a deluxe honeymoon at the resort he designed - the catch - her “dads” will also be there, on their “honeymoon!”
As the reader, by now your head should be spinning around, right? Not at all! For a debut author, Ms. Adamson has done a fine job of keeping things organized, amusing and moving right along. My Three Husbands is an interesting look at a most unusual family dynamic, one woman’s desire to belong to someone, and her realization that the only person she can really belong to is - herself. I enjoyed reading this book. The “dads” were really cool, and proved once again that love brings out the best in people.
