Icebreaker by Deirdre Martin is a smart and down-to-earth romance that is exquisite to read.

Sinead O’Brien has just been hired by the New York Blades hockey team to defend their newest star, Adam Perry, against charges being brought against him. Adam has always played hard but according to the prosecuting attorney, Adam’s latest hit is going too far.

Sinead and Adam clash immediately, even as they work towards the same goal. Sinead thinks Adam is standoffish and aloof, working against her help. Adam does not understand why Sinead needs to know every little detail about his life. How will that help his case? Slowly but surely these two battle it out in court, and in the bedroom, as the attraction simmering between them rushes to a boil.

However, the rules of the career game are very different for men and women as Sinead and Adam are about to find out in dramatic fashion.

Deirdre Martin has an absolute winner on her hands. Icebreaker is everything I adore about contemporary romance. A fabulous and strong heroine who faces some true vulnerability but comes out stronger. A man who can admit that he makes mistakes even as he tries his best. Sinead and Adam do not seem perfect together, they seem real and that is the highest compliment I can say about this book. This is a real story about a couple facing real life difficulties that make romance and relationships difficult. Careers, marriage, family planning, and of course, love. Sinead and Adam have to work together to make their relationship work, and they work hard, as befits their personalities.

Icebreaker is utterly enjoyable and genuine. Deirdre Martin has never been better!
