A serial arsonist is in Charlottesville, Virginia, and Lora, a local firefighter, wants him caught. No one is seeing the pattern except for her and maybe her boss, Frank Garrison. Frank was the one who gave her Hydeís direct number to the FBI's SSD, Serial Specialist Division.
The lead arson investigator, Seth, thought he could find the clues to lead them to the arsonist who was setting these fires and leaving bodies trapped in the fires. He thought there might be several arsonists and not just one like Lora and Kenton Lake from SSD, who was sent to find this killer and hopefully his motives behind the fires trapping the people and killing them, thought. Even the local chief of police doesnít see a connection and isnít too happy to have SSD there.
Lora and Kenton donít exactly hit if off right away, well, Lora did hit Kenton to get him out of a burning building. From there the sparks between the two of them are hot and heavy. They thought one night would be enough for them but it isnít.
The deeper they get into this investigation the more danger it brings. With the danger, it also brings more members of the SSD team. Monica is there to profile the arsonist/killer, Ramirez shows up to trail them and try to keep them safe. Even Sam appears to put her computer skills to use and find the link between the victims and a connection linking them all together. Luke is there to support them all, most importantly Monica. He isnít on the case and that is fine with him.
Can these firefighters, cops and SSD members work together to find the arsonist in time? It doesnít help that Monica and Kenton interview the members of Garrisonís team and even the cops arenít left out of the interrogations. Will they be able to pull it all together to make the connection without another one of their own getting hurt or even killed?
Deadly Heat by Cynthia Eden is a fabulous read that will have you turning the pages keeping you up all night because you canít put the book down. It is a roller coaster ride of emotions for all involved. Deadly Heat is the second in the Deadly series. You will want to read Deadly Fear first as it will give you the background on a few of the members in SSD that made them what they are. A team that will trust no one except one of their own. I canít wait to read Deadly Lies and see what Ms. Eden has in store for the SSD members, especially Sam as this is her story.
