Madeline Black is an Angel of Death. She takes the newly departed souls to the Door or at least she tries. She gives them the option, if they donít go then there is even more paperwork to fill out. Being an Angel of Death is like any other government office, where what happens must be recorded either good or bad. The paperwork can be tedious.
Maddyís life is about to be turned upside down in the span of a few hours. She needs a tenant for her downstairs apartment; she needs the income to survivor and pay her bills. When Gabriel shows up it seems life gets a lot more interesting, and life threatening.
It seems there are forces that either want to keep her safe or others who want her dead. She canít seem to get a break when almost every time she turns around she is getting her ass kicked by some demon. And through this all, she must still do her job by being there when one of her assignments departs to ask them their wishes.
There is Beezle, who is a gargoyle, and protects Maddy when he can. He is also her best friend and a strange creature at that; he is moody to say the least.
Between trying to do her job, fighting demons, and staying alive, Maddy is falling for Gabriel. Who knows what will happen between the two of them when there are obstacles in their way of being together. We canít forget about J.B., who is Maddyís boss and can push Maddyís buttons like there is no tomorrow.
Black Wings by Christina Henry is a fast paced book that I had a hard time putting down. Gabriel and Beezle try to protect Maddy but it might be her downfall if they donít tell her everything they know. I canít wait to read Black Night and find out where Gabriel, J.B., Antares, and Beezle all stand in Maddyís world, as well as the other revelations that were uncovered in Black Wings.
