Mikhail Dubinsky has fought long and hard to cage the demons within him. He is the leader, the prince, to a race of beings named Carpathians; a name taken from the mountain region in Romania that they call home. He has existed for hundred of years waiting for the other half of his soul to appear. For centuries he has hunted the undead — those who have given up hope of finding their lifemates — and brought them to justice for their crimes against the world.

The longer a Carpathian man goes without finding his mate the more dangerous he becomes. Loneliness has haunted this dangerously sexy man - so much so that he seeks to put an end to it the only way he can. Just when he has given up hope of ever finding his life mate — the woman strong enough to share his life and power with — Mikhail’s prayers are answered in the form of Raven Whitney.

Psychic Raven Whitney is one of the few human women who may successfully join with a Carpathian male. Drawn by Mikhail’s lonely cries in the night, Raven contacts him telepathically in what is the catalyst for a powerfully passionate relationship.

Carpathians are intensely passionate, powerful beings that desire the unity shared between lifemates, the other half of their soul. Unbeknownst to humankind, Carpathians have walked amongst them for millennia but their continued existence is now in jeopardy. Female Carpathians are rare and few are born to lifemated couples making a bad situation even more perilous.

Unfortunately, everything isn’t roses and candy because the predators have now become the prey. Would-be vampire hunters have targeted the Carpathians and Raven is caught in the middle of it all.

We’ve all read a book or two, maybe more, where the hero is a larger-than-life alpha male, well here is the first in a series based on these scrumptious men. While their over-protectiveness and macho behavior may be a tad annoying at times, it can be overlooked when coupled with absolute trust and love for their mates. Ms. Feehan has created a thoroughly engrossing read set in an alternate reality that draws the willing reader right into the thick of it. This is a definite all-nighter.
