Rain Sommers, the daughter of music star Desiree Sommers, is the one and only hostess of French Quarter radio show Midnight Confessions. She thought she was used to the strange people who called in for her help on the late night show, but when someone calling themselves ‘Dante’ calls in to ask about things usually better known as ‘unmentionables’ on the air, Rain’s assurance of her profession goes out the window and down the sewer.
Trevor Rivette, an agent for the FBI Violent Cases Unit, is in the French Quarter investigating a series of murders that spans across a number of states. He has been tracking the killer - called the ’Vampire’ by the media - for more than a year, and even though the investigation is only a project of the FBI, he’s determined to find the killer and close the case. However, when his case brings him to the doorstep of the studio that Midnight Confessions broadcasts from, everything will get derailed.
As Trevor and Rain fall for each other and Trevor scrambles to find both the ‘Vampire’ and ‘Dante’ before another girl is killed, all signs point to ‘Dante’ being the man that Trevor has been searching for. Two killings in the same city have completely convinced him. But somehow, the investigation of ‘Dante’ that seemed to be going oh-so-well ends up in a tangled mess. Will Trevor be able to find this ‘Dante’ character and deal with his past as well as his love for Rain all at once? Will Rain be able to escape the claws of ‘Dante’ and his strange fetish? All will be told with the words of a Midnight Caller.
All in all, a really good read - even if the beginning is a tad bit slow. Most certainly a keeper, and a five out of five.
