Dr. Maisy Jane Dalton has been walking through life since her husband died three years ago. She found out that he was unfaithful. The pain and feelings of betrayal caused by his infidelity, followed by his unexpected death, convinced her that emotions were not to be trusted and that it was better to be alone. That is, until the day she walked into the room of a new patient and looked into the eyes of Zach Ingram.

People looking for his brother Jack had kidnapped Zach. They looked so much alike that people often mistook them for each other. The ironic thing about it is that Jack is adopted. The kidnappers want information that Jack has buried in his memories. Since his adoption at 12 by the Ingramís, Jack has never been able to remember anything about his life before then. Maisy is a psychiatrist who specializes in hypnosis, and de-programming. She was told that Zach/Jack was a member of a cult that he had been brought home. They wanted her to restore his memories and bring him back to his loving family. She wasnít aware that they were drugging and torturing him every night to try to get him to remember. The kidnappers were also unaware that they had the wrong man.

Maisy is a woman who has been hurt and betrayed. I can understand her need to protect herself and her heart from further heartache, which she thinks is inevitable if she gets involved with anyone emotionally. Zachís feelings for Maisy are intense and immediate. He is more than willing to admit his growing love for her, but knows she isnít ready for that, yet is willing to patiently wait until she is.

Enemy Mind is book five in the Family Secrets miniseries. The author has crafted a gripping tale of fear, desperation and the healing power of love. Enemy Mind is part of a series, but can easily be read as a stand-alone. Ms. Shayne does a wonderful job of filling you in on what has happened so far, but still keeping you on the edge of your seat. I read this book in one day. I had to see what happened next. Would Zach and Maisy get away from their captors? Would Maisy admit her growing love for Zach? Would Jack ever get his memory back? My only quibble is that it ended much too soon. I know I will be waiting most impatiently to find out what happens next.
