Every year late August-early September for me used to mean being very anxious for the latest installment of Debbie Macomberís Cedar Cove book. After last yearís installment I was truly looking forward to 1022 Evergreen Place with a renewed enthusiasm for the series. However, I have to admit to being more than a tad disappointed with 1022 Evergreen Place.
Why was I disappointed? I was looking forward to the story of Mack McAfee and Mary Jo Wyse, but felt that their path to finding their own happy ever after was rather petty, and not given the full treatment that I was hoping for. I also felt that 1022 was used more as a transition book to fill readers in on other residents of Cedar Cove, and that perhaps Mack and Mary Jo finding the true path to happiness just wasnít that important.
If you can set aside the idea that 1022 Evergreen Place is more of a filler book then I believe youíre going to be quite entertained by it. Ms. Macomber does do a wonderful job of integrating the other residents of the town into the story, and filling readers in on what is happening in Cedar Cove. I do have to admit I always look forward to catching up on characters, but had been looking forward to more interaction between Mack and Mary Jo than I feel that I got.
True fans and collectors of Ms. Macomber's will surely want to purchase 1022 Evergreen Place to have as a keeper. Those who are like me and donít keep many, if any books might choose to get this particular title from the library.
