On the day of her thirtieth birthday, Callie Grey finally has to face facts. Her boss, the love of her life, the man she spent hours upon hours dreaming about, does not and will not love her. In fact, he is currently seriously dating someone else much to Callie’s dismay. She knows she has to move on, but finding a guy to date in small town Vermont is not exactly easy pickings.

Callie loves life and it shows. She is charming, sweet, likable, and funny. Certainly all those things will work in her favor as she finds a man who can appreciate her, who will share her happily-ever-after rocking chair. Of course, as with many things in life, finding a man is easier said than done. And it certainly will not be the new vet in town, Dr. Ian McFarland. He is abrupt, cold, and downright rude at times!

However, the more Callie gets to know Ian, the more she starts to realize that beneath his surface, this is a man who feels things and feels them deeply. He is certainly a hard nut to crack, but Callie finally feels like she has found a man worthy of her future. She will not let him go easily. But will Ian be so easily charmed by Callie?

All I Ever Wanted is flat out wonderful! Callie is a breath of fresh air. She is smart, takes joy in her family (even as they are quite unique in some respects), and yes, though she pines after her boss, she is determined to make a new start. Callie definitely does not seem like the ideal lady love for the more taciturn Ian, but they balance each other nicely.

As usual, Higgins outdoes herself once again with a spectacular cast of secondary characters, including a mortician who is crushing on Callie, a niece who loves to sing inappropriate songs, and a grumpy grandfather who is definitely a star of this novel in his own right. I always feel like I’ve traveled to the book’s destination (in this case, Vermont) and experienced the flavor of the state just by reading Ms. Higgins’s work and this happened yet again.

All I Ever Wanted is exemplary storytelling and truly powerful romance. Callie and Ian will satisfy your every romantic reading urge!
