Tattoo artist Rox is no stranger to picking up strays and trying to set them on the right path but her latest project has just rebuffed her plan and announced that he’s found his own. Skeptical of T’s new found path and “friends”, Rox is determined to find out the truth about Niall Talbot and make sure that no one is taking advantage of her dragon shifting friend. Rox’s first encounter with Niall makes her realize that more is going on than it seems and that she may have just found a dragon of her own.

Niall Talbot, a dragon shifter and protector of mankind known as a Pyr, is on a self imposed deadline to rid earth of Slayers, who are bent towards destroying Pyr’s and humans alike. Frustrated by his attempts to teach a fledgling Pyr, the last thing Niall expects to find on his door step is a tiny punk chick bent on finding out the truth about his association with her friend. Even more unexpected, Niall begins to feel the hot lick of his firestorm, a physical reaction brought on when a Pyr meets his destined mate, come to life. Niall is unprepared for his reaction to Rox, not only because she isn’t his usual type, but because he has no time to worry about his personal life when he is working so hard to complete his mission. Torn by his personal desires and his mission Niall and Rox will have to set aside their personal fears and desires if they are to create something special between them.

Whisper Kiss is an imaginative and colorful and a wonderful introduction to Deborah Cooke’s work. Rox’s fearless attitude hides a venerable spirit but it is exactly this mixture of hard and soft that makes Rox such a great character and her willingness to open herself up to Niall that much sweeter. Niall’s struggle between his heart and his duty is admirable but makes his surrender even hotter when he gives into his heart. Deborah Cooke has created a wonderfully rich world full of dazzling characters and stories that are sure to make readers want to visit again and again. I look forward to finding out more about the Pyr and their quest to vanquish the Slayers.
