The legend of Angel's Bay is one of the main topics in the third series novel, In Shelter Cove. The lives of the shipwreck survivors that washed ashore, supposedly aided by angels, comprise the backbone of most of the families in the town. Many of them can trace their roots back to those original settlers.
The Kanes can trace their history back to those first families. Now one of their youngest members has come home to be buried. Derek Kane, found guilty of art theft and assault, died shortly before his prison sentence would have ended. He left behind Brianna, his wife, and their son Lucas. Brianna has decided that moving to Angel's Bay will allow her in-laws to enjoy their grandson. She also hopes to prove Derek's innocence once and for all.
Jason Marlow was Derek's best friend. As a police officer, arresting Derek had been the hardest thing he ever had to do. His testimony helped to convict his friend and earned him the enmity of the entire Kane family. He grieved for his friend and wished that there had been any way to exonerate Derek. Now Brianna is in town, asking questions, and looking even more beautiful than before. Jason knows he should stay away, but his heart is not listening.
In Shelter Cove offers readers a good solid romance and a spine-tingling mystery all in a tidy package. Will Brianna discover the truth about Derek? Who was really behind the art theft? Author Barbara Freethy does a fine job of keeping us guessing for most of the book. She also continues several ongoing stories to keep things fresh. I can't wait to see where they will lead as the series continues.
