Lady Alessandra della Giamatti cannot wait to begin her new project. As an expert in antiquities, she has been invited to work on an excavation site near Bath. She realizes what an honor it is, and how rare for a woman to be allowed to participate. She is eager to put London behind her, and with it that annoying man, Lord James Pierson. He always seems to be underfoot, and while she can appreciate his role in saving her dear friend, something about him always seems to upset her.

James, better known as Black Jack, delights in discomfiting the fiery widow if she is around, but he has not been placing himself in her vicinity on purpose. Their paths and friends are just too entangled of late. He hopes his new project in Bath will give him the distance he needs to end his attraction to the lovely Italian.

Alessandra has several unpleasant surprises waiting for her in Bath, the least of all Black Jack. At least she knows he has honor and is a gentlemen. A member of the Italian excavation team is neither. He has come with blackmail in mind, and drags Alessandra into his deceit. She must find a way to stop Frederico, but she is very afraid. Can Jack help her? Would he help her if he knew all her secrets?

To Surrender to a Rogue is the second of the Circle of Sin novels from Cara Elliott. This series features well-educated and strong women who take charge of their destinies rather than watch from afar. I enjoyed the sharp wit and quick pace of the novel, and cannot wait to see what Ms. Elliott has planned next.
