Dr. Elliott Drake and a group of friends go caving in Sedona. While underground, they are knocked unconscious by an earthquake. When they wake up, fifty years have passed and the world as they knew it is forever lost. A post-apocalyptic landscape awaits the group. Major cities lie in ruins. California is gone and the Pacific Ocean has a new coastline. What few survivors remain have come together in small communities as they struggle to survive. The men are looking for one such town, called Envy.
Thus begins an exciting new series by author Joss Ware.
When they encounter a group of teenagers from Envy, they know they are close to the town. Rescuing the teens from marauding ganga, they are assisted by a young woman on horseback. She too appears to know Envy's location but is wary of the group.
Jade has spent the last three years on the run from the Strangers. Are these new men a danger to her and her friends? She must make sure before leading them to Envy.
Beyond the Night is a fine introduction to this strange new world. Ms. Ware introduces the main characters and delivers just enough background information to pique our curiosity. There is plenty of kick-ass fighting and passionate encounters. I can't wait to see what comes next.
