Michael Keynes has had one mission in his life - to destroy his older brother, the Duke of Tallent, otherwise known as the Beast. To this end, Michael has traveled from Scotland to India and back to England, thwarting his brother at every turn. He has hired mercenaries to attack his brotherís overseas investments and has made a personal vow to kill the wicked duke before he can ruin any more lives. It is interesting to discover that he is not alone in this desire. Many people wish to murder the Beast.
One of the most unlikely assassins is Miranda Holcombe. Impoverished nobility, Mira cares for her ailing father and secretly plots the demise of the man who ruined her life. She is given quite a fright when she meets Michael because the family resemblance is so striking. Upon closer association, she discovers that he has little in common with his elder brother. He is unfailingly kind to her and her father, and while he has dark secrets, he has been courteous and considerate.
When the notorious duke is discovered murdered, Michael and Mira are swept into the storm of controversy surrounding his death. But if neither one of them killed him, who did?
Heart of the Tiger is an excellent book. As the second book in her trilogy, Ms. Kerstan has written a book that can stand on its own merits, but is so much nicer when read with its companion book. I look forward to the final story, scheduled for a fall release.
