As a vampire assassin for the Alliance, Jade has lived for many centuries. Death is a part of her life, yet as an immortal vampire herself, she’s never had to worry about it. Until now. When a psychic friend informs Jade that she is about to die, the vampire hunter becomes obsessed with staying alive, changing her fighting tactics to avert death. However, her tactics are unconventional and end up drawing more attention than necessary to the Alliance.

A little worried about drawing too much attention from the human race, her boss assigns fallen angel and ex Marquis of Hell, Samael to assess her abilities and produce a progress report. On their first assignment Samael can see why she’s been put on probation. He knows something is bugging Jade and intending to find out what, he never expects to fall for her.

But in the end Samael may be the only one who can save her soul...

From the opening paragraph, I was hooked on Samael. Right now the market seems flooded with vampire/fallen angel fiction, however I do believe Ms. McClure adds a fresh voice to old plot hooks. Jade is a kick-ass feisty heroine, yet we are left in no doubt that she’s afraid to die. Her well hidden vulnerability and how it affects her fighting ability had smackings of stark reality. Her relationship with sexy fallen angel, Samael, is smoking. The love scenes between them are scorching. I enjoyed the mutual respect in the relationship and the fierce protective streak Samael has towards hard ass Jade as the story progresses.

Samael also has some interesting secondary characters which enriched the storyline. The only negative thing I have to say about this book is the fight scenes were a bit repetitive.

With a well crafted plot, emotionally intense, intriguing characters and red hot sex, Samael is a must read for any paranormal fans. Well worth a read!
