Ben Sinclair is now running Tidewater, Inc., since his older brother married and moved to Maine. He received a mystery card in the mail and got the biggest shock of his life – he’s the father of a fifteen year old boy!!! He remembers the summer and he remembers the girl but he was never told she was pregnant. He’s off to Maine to claim his son and get revenge on those that kept him a secret all these years!

Emma Sands has been raising her nephew alone, since Mikey’s mother took off ten years prior, and not regretting a day of it. Emma and Mikey have been running a sporting camp in Medicine Gore, Maine. The last thing Emma needs is the man that broke her teenaged heart nosing his way into her family…….or her heart.

Tempt Me If You Can by Janet Chapman is the second book in the Sinclair Brothers series and while it’s a well-written book, I had a hard time with Ben. I couldn’t “feel” anything for him, except occasional disgust and distaste. He’s one of those oh, so Macho men, used to having his every word obeyed and while I understood his anger at being kept in the dark about his son, what I didn’t understand was his attitude changes after he met Emma and Mikey. Emma also kept Mikey a secret and yet the only thing Ben can think about is getting her in bed.

Emma’s a strong woman and, with the possible exception of her one almost too-stupid-to-live moment and the times she tried to be too strong, she was okay in my book. I “understood” where she was coming from and where she thought she was going. My favorite character was Mikey, Ben’s son. Nothing like a fifteen-going-on-thirty genius boy to liven up the party.

Tempt Me If You Can isn’t one of Ms. Chapman’s best books - it was a pleasant read with no big surprises.
