Hot and Irresistible combines paranormal and mystery, but unfortunately not always to its advantage.
Donovan McCabe is in Savannah working on a case. When he meets Bebe Fitzpatrick, also assigned to the case, professional ethics go straight out the window and into bed, by the second chapter.
Donovan is working to bring a much loved local businessman, Ray Cleveland, into custody. For what, I was confused throughout much of the story. Something to do with casinos and gambling out of his boat but I never fully understood why there was so much pressure on Cleveland. Well, Bebe is not going to let it happen. But her efforts do not seem to strain her growing attraction to Donovan at all.
Somewhere in this book is a story but I’m just not sure where. I was bemused by how quickly these two fell into bed. The police “investigation” seemed far-fetched at best, and the mystery surrounding a necklace just felt like another layer of the story I had to wade through. While I liked the characters somewhat, I was not compelled to keep reading. I felt lost which is not a positive feeling in any story. Perhaps this is a story that will work better for other readers. For me, I felt like Ms. Castell was bogged down in too much plot, not enough simplicity.
