Imagine being trapped into a life of leisure and luxury, paraded before eligible men like a horse up for bidding. Imagine that you have the deep need to explore life and adventure – to find out what exists beyond the polite clatter of teacups.
Well, you don’t have to imagine it, it’s the world created by Tracy Cozzens for Pauline Carrington, the heroine of this exciting romance. Caught by her position in American society, yet breaking the rules and conventions at every turn, Pauline is sent by her parents in desperation to visit her married sister in India. The country appeals to her, but more appealing is the man she meets – whose nickname is "White Tiger".
Nate Savidge has spent most of his life in India, loathing the thought of returning to England, and shunned by his family. He loves the bush, hunts man-eating tigers, and generally lives the life that Pauline yearns to experience. When these two meet, sparks fly.
This is a completely spellbinding romance. Both Nate and Pauline are strong, well-written characters, whose passions rise with the temperatures. Nate is distrustful of “society” women, and Pauline is desperate to shed the trappings forced upon an eligible young woman in the late 1800’s. She devises a plan to accompany Nate on a hunting trip, and along the way they learn more about each other than they could ever have imagined. The love between them is inevitable – only Nate can match Pauline’s spirit, and only Pauline can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the hunter. They are superb together, whether fighting, loving, or facing danger. I was lost in their world, feeling their pain and their joy, and I devoured this story in one sitting. I can’t recommend it highly enough and will certainly be checking my store for more stories from this wonderfully talented writer.
