Christien Lenoir was not raised with a silver spoon in his mouth. He worked hard to get where he is today, a sword master known as the Falcon. As part of the Brotherhood Christien dedicates his time and talent to defending those who are unable to defend themselves. But now he has taken on a new mission. A mission defying the standard behavior of a gentleman. Christien dupes Reineís father into gambling away his home, Riverís Edge. Another key element to the plan is asking Reine to marry him. She isnít supposed to know the engagement is only a ploy. After seeing Reine in person Christien is overwhelmed with a fierce need to have her forever at his side.
Reine is content with her station in life. As a widow she no longer suffers the affront of having a wayward and verbally abusive husband. Reine is accustomed to the whispered rumors that blame her for her husbandís death. She has her family and a home, thatís all that matters. One visit from Christien Lenoir destroys that little bit of security. He offers Reine an alternative to being cast out on the streets, but how can she marry this stranger? A stranger who walks into her life one day and claims Riverís Edge as his own? Then there are his mysterious trips in the night. Reine cannot endure another deceitful husband. Still, if she refuses her entire family will be turned out of their ancestral home. As if this is not enough to deal with, Reine must endure a past that rises up to haunt her.
Triumph in Arms is the new and final book in Jennifer Blakeís superb Maitres d'Armes series. Beloved characters from previous books return. It was a delight to ďseeĒ them again. At the beginning of Reine and Christienís story readers may feel these two do not have a chance, but then Ms. Blake works her magic and in the end we are fully convinced in their happily ever after.
Triumph in Arms is another satisfying read by the Incomparable, Jennifer Blake.
